Ohio unemployment reaches 11.2% - highest in 26 years

Ohio's unemployment rate was 11.2 percent in July, up slightly from 11.1 percent in June, according to data released this morning by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Ohio's nonfarm wage and salary employment increased 9,800 over the month, from 5,113,100 in June to 5,122,900 in July.

"Ohio's labor market remained relatively unchanged in July," ODJFS Director Douglas Lumpkin said. "Job gains in service-providing industries were partially offset by job losses in goods-producing sectors."

The number of workers unemployed in Ohio in July was 664,000, up from 663,000 in June. The number of unemployed has increased by 265,000 in the past 12 months from 399,000. The July unemployment rate for Ohio was up from 6.7 percent in July 2008.

The U.S. unemployment rate for July was 9.4 percent, about unchanged from 9.5 percent in June.

  7. I think if we all stopped watching the 24 hour news networks so much and actually got information from 2 or 3 different view points. We would be in a much better position to decide who is the best person for office...Americans have come to let the TV do the thinking for us, therefore politics becomes a matter of who can manipulate the media best...

We also need to think of solutions to our problems rather than just continualsley say were being screwed over... No matter the candidate the problems are inherent in the system, therefore until we change the flaws, they will just continue to effect us in one form or another...

  8. I agree with most of what your saying but I dont have t.v since they done away with analog.I get my news right here.We need someone who will fix the problem and not keep rolling it over to the next person.

  9. TV/internet are really the same thing... Its actually harder to find decent info on the internet because everyone's opinion is touted as fact...

And saying your info comes from "right here" kind of proves my point people, are not looking to different sources, because if you honestly believe that the information posted on here is completely unbiased you are mistaken, it is especially difficult to write without a bias because everyone has feeling and opinions that make it into their writing.

But back to the issue at hand... it takes more than "someone" who will fix the problem, because that is nothing more than rolling it over to "someone" else... One person in this case isn't going to make a difference. If the system is going to improve then it takes all of us working to find solutions to the problems, and not expecting "someone" to do it for us, because they won't...
