Football Friday: Week 7

Ansonia is now 6-0 7-0 and ranked 13th in the state. Here are this week's games ...

Bethel 12, Ansonia 44 (homecoming)
Mississinawa 2, Arcanum 14 (homecoming)
Miami East at Bradford
Versailles 27, Ft. Recovery 0
Greenville at University School (Saturday at 2 p.m.)

Arcanum and Versailles seem to be improving. A shutout against the high-scoring Ft. Recovery team, on their field, is impressive. And Arcanum tooks some beatings early in the year, but rallied for homecoming to beat a tough 4-2 MV team.

Anybody have the Bradford score?

  1. Greenville plays football at University School in Hunting Valley, Ohio (Chagrin Falls, Oh.). I looked it up and found that school to be located east of Cleveland, Oh.
It is 245 miles away and is estimated to take 4 hours and 15 minutes to get there. It is absolutely assenine to have to travel that far with a high school team to play in any sports, excluding tournament plays for state finals. I don't know but the band will most likely go too, requiring another bus. How many fans do you suppose will follow the team all the way up there? Parents will probably be the most of them.
I have been reading where the school is cutting back on bussing students to school. I would like to think that my tax dollars would be used first for getting students to school and educating them.
Is it the thoughts of the school administration that if you play one of the most expensive schools in the state that they can bring some money home?
I am sure that there would be another school of similar size as Greenville that would much closer that they could play, especially on a Saturday no less.

  2. I agree--it is ridiculous. The Superintendent calls all of the shots, so you can probably ask her why. Good luck on that.

  3. keep in mind, greenville is conference-less. Other schools have 9 out of the 10 weeks usually devoted to their conference games. When you are independent, there isn't much you can do...

which is why the vents leading to g-ville being in that situation are the real problem. If greenville can find its way back in to a conf, this sort of thing won't happen.

  4. 34-22 Miami East over Bradford. Almost a huge upset for the Railroaders. There a young team with mostly freshman and sophmores.

  5. Greenville thought they were hot stuff and wanted out of their previous conference ... now that they are having to play against better teams from around the state (and from Indiana as well), and they are consistently losing, so now their old conference looks pretty good to them again.

  6. Is there a result of the Greenville game?

  7. Just a side note but the band does not go to this game. The band has had to cut several events due to money issues in the school district. Small simple things like the Bradford Pumpkin show for example. My question is why can't any other program do some cuts?

  10. Isn't transportation to away games like this paid for out of the athletic department budget?

And rumor has it a vote will take place in November to let Greenville back into the GWOC north.
