Union City Among Those Awarded Community Focus Funds

Recently, Lt. Governor Becky Skillman announced that 25 rural communities will receive Community Focus Funds (CFF) grants totaling $11,529,500, of which Union City will receive $500,000.

The grants are funded by the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, which is administered by the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs. This is the tenth round of CFF grants the Lt. Governor has awarded since 2005.

Monte Poling, City Manager of Union City, said he and Mayor Bryan Conklin feel a big factor in receiving the grant was due to the cooperative efforts among the council and the Downtown Revitalization Group, as well as from the community through support shown at the design workshop, council meetings and through letters of support submitted with the grant application.

“Grant opportunities like this one allow rural communities to undertake projects they might not otherwise be able to fund,” said Lt. Governor Skillman. “By satisfying basic quality of life and infrastructure needs, the grants position these 25 communities to achieve greater economic success.

According to Poling, there will be an official awards ceremony in Indianapolis in December.
