BASF volunteers assist in the 2009 Beautification Day

As the winter weather is hopefully eliminated from the forecast for the next seven months, the signs of spring itch to come back to life. The cool, crisp air with the sun peeking through ignites a planting spirit in many of us. That spirit is also coming alive in downtown Greenville!

Striving to blend community pride with downtown bonding, the Design Committee of Main Street Greenville rejuvenated the flower program to encompass the whole community by initiating the Adopt A Box Program. The beauty of downtown reaches far more than its boundaries by having assistance from area businesses, organizations, and families.

On May 22, a day we are calling Downtown Beautification Day, the downtown will come to life with people bustling around planting color into the earth. The adoptee of each flower box will engage in volunteering their time to keep downtown growing. The enthusiasm and response from the community shows that this project is long over due.

The vision of this program is to see families laughing, co-workers communicating, and organizations building teamwork. Downtown is a place for people to come together, socialize, and feel connected with the rest of the community. What better way to allow that to happen then a beautification day? This day will be a small movement towards people picking up the shovel, moving the dirt, and planting the seeds for the future.

If this is something that excites you, please give Main Street Greenville a call at 548.4998 to adopt a downtown box. The deadline to register is April 30. Hurry a limited number of boxes are available.
