In the Darke Journal poll at least. Hopefully a likewise result in May??

  1. Actual results if all voters polled: 75% against; 10% for; 15% blaming their GCS education for now knowing anything about the political process to have an opinion.

  2. What would be one reason that anyone would have changed their mind since the last vote?

  3. how many home owners voted and reistered voters and how many live in greenville school. so this is not a real poll my seven year old could have voted.how many voters have not even heard of darke journal so i hope the tea party gets the signs that are no new taxes and that goes for every one

  5. When I get the real story about where my kid's (now a 21 y.o.) 2007 Senior Year Book is or get my $60.00 back - then I will decide if I will vote for a levy. I can't vote for a system of people I can't trust. This isn't just about a building.

  6. You all are thinking about your self,it is time to think of our children, its all about education.if we don't have a good school sytem what business wants to settle here. look at the northern school, great rating, students giving their all, parents standing behind their children.i beleive it is time for greenville to stand up for their students and give them something to be proud of. forget all your animousity at people who made mistakes in the paet ,lets get with the now and think of greenville heiratage and the kids.

  7. I sincerely hope the levy fails again. I do not live in the Greenville district but am so sick and tired of hearing all the whining in the community and workplace about the buildings, technology, etc. People are strapped for cash, period. Social security and pensions have not increased but people are told to cutback, where might we cut back? Respect is a lot of the problem within the district and from one looking in I would find it hard to respect or believe your board and backers that are constantly being rude and saying "Must support our schools."

  8. Walmart had their first lost this past quarter. People are cutting back, buying what only they can afford and need. So how much more are we to cut back. Wait till you all get your new appraisels on your taxes in 2012-so give some serious thought about this levy, I know I can barely afford my taxes now.

  9. I wish they would tax with a SALES TAX, this would be from a good base to draw new building funds from!!!
Then everyone would be taxed, not just from the elderly who own property, and the majority of parents that send there kids to school /just rent.

  11. DJ what was the poll results for the February election? Positive or negative for the election? Curious how came out to actual.

  12. I didn't do a poll before the February election because I felt that drawing as little attention to the levy as possible would help its chance of passage.

  14. As a property owner in Darke Co, who will be paying for any new school, I feel only property owners should be the ones to vote. If all want a say, then any school should be paid for by a sales tax. Right now what is needed for the community is jobs. No one has the money to help pay for a new school right now.

  15. How many times does this have to be explained?March 24, 2010 at 6:39 AM

Non property owners will also feel the impact of this bond issue by the likely increase in their rent, so I believe everyone should have the right to vote.

Second, and please pay attention: a sales tax is not possible. Only state legislators and county commissioners can enact a sales tax. Did you read that??? No sales tax.

Also, an income tax, in most cases, would be even more than a property tax since businesses and industry contribute in a property tax. In order to get the necessary funding, 1% of a person's income would be taxed. So the property tax is the best way to go.

Yes, this county needs more jobs. Keeping lousy school buildings will not help attract new industry. This has been mentioned about a million times too. Pay attention.

Finally, since I just read in the chat that someone is taking their $1000 they normally spend at the fair (!) and attending another fair instead, I'm thinking that this recession isn't as bad for many people as it may be for a few. Maybe it's time we look at our priorities and decide that we need to spend a little toward caring for the needs of our future generations.

  16. What I do not understand is that we have new schools are around the immediate area yet has new businesses come to town, no they pack up and leave. Ansonia, Bradford, Arcanum just to name a few have new buildings or will be and they are not that far from Greenville so why haven't any new jobs opened up yet. I just don't believe a new school will attract them. If that levy passes it will only mean more hardships on people. Here is a suggestion-require that the students pay to go to school and pay extra to be involved in sports-if you are for the levy then there should not be any complaints against that plan
