A Night of Comedy and Caring - March 27th

The Darke County Chapter of the American Red Cross is again offering Darke Countians a way to support the lifesaving services that the Red Cross provides the community , “A Night of Comedy and Caring” their premiere special event for 2010. “Who would have thought that we would still be holding this event ten years later” stated Lynne Gump, Executive Director, “but, it’s just such an affordable and enjoyable evening, not to mention, hilarious!” For this the tenth year, the Chapter is honoring the men and woman of the United States Military and their family members! Of note, a Pair of Free tickets to the event are available to the first fifteen military personnel or military family member that requests them; that’s thirty seats being donated to military, veterans and/or a member of a military family.

This year’s event will be held March 27th at the Greenville Elk’s at 214 Third Street with doors opening at 5:30 for a casual hour of drinks and socializing and dinner being served promptly at 6:30. A dinner buffet by Montage Catering will feature Hand Pounded-Pan Fried Chicken Parmesan Chicken, Four Cheese Lasagna, a score of side dishes and an assortment of cheesecake to end the meal. A cash bar is available for responsible drinking; meal comes with Iced Tea and Lemonade. A great meal, of course, is the first step to a wonderful night out, but that’s where this fun raiser just begins. Nationally known comic Mark Klein, who has appeared on A & E’s Comedy on the Road, Showtime and Comedy Club Network, and a host of television shows brings a wealth of comedy to Darke County. He prides himself on being outrageously funny, without going “blue”, meaning he’s a great PG comic. The Darke County Chapter considers themselves very lucky, that they are able to bring in a comic of this highest level for their fundraiser. For years Chapter volunteers have worked with locally comedy clubs to bring a high level of entertainment for this event at a much reduced rate. This year to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the event, Rob Haney, owner of Wiley’s Comedy Club has generously donated tickets to a show at Wiley’s for everyone attending “A Night of Comedy and Caring”! Even better the show is for comic Jeffrey Jena, who has in years past appeared at Darke County’s own Comedy and Caring!

Additionally, the Chapter hosts that evening a raffle for prizes donated by area businesses, and a “Not so Silent, Silent Basket Auction” for baskets that are donated by the Chapter’s Board of Directors. Most of the Baskets are worth two to three hundred dollars and are sold to the highest bidder that night.

Your Red Cross Chapter is an extremely vital part of our community, whether it is by aiding victims of local disaster such as house fires, by providing life-saving training in CPR, or by providing emergency communications for our Armed Forces and their family, the American Red Cross is part of your everyday life. Buying a twenty-five dollar tickets to this casual evening of fun is just one way you can support your Red Cross and help them provide all of the services so essential to our community. “The programs the Red Cross delivers, down the street, across the county and around the world are as vital today as they were ninety-three years ago when this chapter began,” states Gump,” this is an fun, affordable evening for a great cause! “Tickets are available from the chapter office at 130 Martz Street, Suite 6, by calling 548-1002 or by emailing gumpl@darkecounty.redcross.org.
