Greenville beats Versailles 13-3 in varsity baseball

Greenville struck for 3 runs in the first inning, and would never relinquish the lead from there as they rolled to their 6th consecutive win.

In the 1st, Leis, Kagey and Shields all singled to make it 1-0, but with 2 outs in the inning Keaser lined a shot to left center that would score the other 2.

In the top of the 2nd for Versailles, Campbell would reach first on a miscommunication between Shields and Leis at the bag before a single by Kindell and a throwing error by Edwards would plate them both to bring Versailles to within 1.

In the bottom of the 2nd, Edwards started the inning with a walk and advanced to third when Leis reached on an error by the shortstop. Kagey then lined a shot to right to score Edwards, and on the next pitch Shields hit a 3-run home run that 2-hopped the Maintenance Building in left-center field.

Greenville would add another run in the 3rd when again Edwards would lead off by getting on and scoring on a Shields single to left field.

Versailles would add their 3rd run in the top of the 5th on a pair of Greenville errors, but the home half of the 5th is where the Wave put it away. Up 8-3, Edwards and Jacob Burk led the inning off with walks, before 4 consecutive singles by Leis, Kagey, Shields and Orth would plate the 5 necessary runs to finish the run rule.

Greenville moved to 8-6 following the game.
