Cancer Association of Darke County Seeks Volunteers

Spring is a great time to take a drive and enjoy the scenery.  Why not take in the view while lending a hand, or a set of wheels, to local cancer patients?

Cancer Association of Darke County needs volunteers to drive clients to medical appointments in Dayton, Troy, Celina, Richmond, Columbus and Indianapolis.  Visit with patients while transporting them to doctor’s appointments, treatments and testing.  This position, available to volunteers who are at least 18 years of age, is available weekdays.  Volunteers will need to provide information for the organization’s insurance provider.  Due to the sensitive nature of some patients’ medical conditions, drivers may not smoke while transporting patients or use a vehicle that has previously been smoked in.

The volunteer driver position is extremely beneficial to both our organization and to our clients. Patients call the organization and request that a driver give them a ride to their appointment and back home. The position is extremely rewarding because without these drivers our patients would not be able to receive essential treatments, check-ups, and medicines to aid them in their fight against cancer.

HandsOn West Central Ohio, including Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, is a program of Council on Rural Services.
