Second National Bank Continues Support of Local Development

DARKE COUNTY- Second National Bank has continued their strong support of Darke County’s Partnering for Progress (P4P) campaign with a 2011 contribution of $10,000 to the county wide economic development effort. The bank’s contribution raised the year three total of the campaign to over $350,000, with more money being committed monthly. It also raised the bank’s commitment thus far to the effort to $30,000.

“We’re proud to be a part of such a valuable campaign,” stated John Swallow, President of Second National Bank. “The Partnering for Progress initiative seeks to encourage growth and revitalization. Obviously, that’s something that we want to support in any way that we can.”

The P4P initiative is a collaborative effort between the county economic development office, the Darke County Community Improvement Corporation (CIC), the county commissioners, and dozens of public and private investors across the county. It aims to promote both the expansion of existing county industry and the attraction of new business. Because of these goals, Economic Development (ED) Director Marc Saluk said that the private investment side of the equation is vital.

“The support of Second National Bank and the other investors gives the economic development office resources that it would never have if it were solely a public program,” explained Saluk. “It provides the tools it will take to attract and retain business and jobs, and provide for a prosperous future. Basically, Second National’s involvement makes my job, and the job of anyone involved in this effort, much easier.”

According to Saluk, P4P has assisted the business community in the creation or retention of over 400 jobs to this date, most of them well paying positions in manufacturing. Additionally, the initiative has worked with Ohio to secure commitments of over $12 million in state incentives for the local business community. The total number of P4P investors now stands at over 60.

Established in 1883 in Darke County, Second National Bank is a community bank with offices in Greenville, Versailles, Arcanum and Ft. Recovery. They have been voted the Best Financial Institution in Darke County the past 6 years and Best Mortgage Company the past 3 years by the Readers Choice Awards conducted by the Advocate.
