Class of 2011 Presents JR Price with New Podium

On Monday, May 23, 2011, JR Price was left speechless by the Class of 2011. The graduating seniors of the GHS Orchestra and the GHS Jazz Scene had secretly contacted Ken Pence to fashion a new podium worthy of their teacher. Mr. Pence, whose wood working has won many awards locally, did not disappoint them. The new conductor’s stand was made from red oak and measures 36 inches square and 12 inches high, with a detachable step.

Unfortunately, Mr. Price had to wait until the fall semester of 2011 to actually inaugurate the podium, as there were no more scheduled concerts for the 2010-2011 school year. Finally, at the GHS Christmas Concert on December 12, Mr. Pence presented Mr. Price with a plaque commemorating the date and the gift. The podium, given to a much loved teacher, will be enjoyed at Memorial Hall for many years to come.
