Lady Tiger Bowlers Set School Record

The Versailles Girls Varsity Bowling Team was scheduled to travel to Varsity Lanes in St. Marys on Saturday, January 21 to bowl against the Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks and the Ansonia Tigers, but due to weather conditions the matches were postponed. The match between the Lady Tigers of Versailles and the Lady Tigers of Ansonia took place on Monday, January 23 at McBo’s Lanes in Versailles. The first game ended with Versailles bowling a 943 to Ansonia’s 777. Sophomore Paige Holsapple was the lead bowler with a 207 followed by Kelsey Berning with a 205 and Megan Monnin with a 203. With their second game score of 847 to Ansonia’s 728 Versailles was ahead by 285 pins. The high score for the second game was Megan Monnin’s 195.

Ansonia came back in the first baker game and bowled a 150 to Versailles’ 135, but Versailles stepped up in the second baker to win with a 170 to 99. The final pin count was Versailles 2095, Ansonia 1754. This put the Versailles Lady Tiger Bowlers record at 6-3.

The match against Mississinawa Valley took place on Thursday, January 26 at McBo’s Lanes. Things were looking good for the Tigers as they ended their first game with 906 pins to the Blackhawks’ 674. Kelsey Berning led the Tigers with a 201 followed by Megan Monnin with a 199. The 232 pin lead soon became a 433 pin lead as the Tigers bowled an 860 to the Blackhawks’ 659. Megan Monnin led with a 186 followed by Kelsey Berning with a 181.

The two baker games also belonged to the Lady Tigers. They rolled a 179 and a 174 to the Lady Blackhawks’ 119 and 132. The final pin count was Versailles 2,119, Mississinawa 1,584. The Lady Tigers improved to 7-3 on the season.

On Saturday, January 28 the Versailles Tigers hosted the W.O.H.S.B.C. teams at McBo’s Lanes in Versailles. The Lady Tigers went up against the Parkway Panthers, and the first game brought the Lady Tigers a new school record for High Team Game! The 2009-2010 High Team Game of 966 was broken when the girls rolled a 996. Tori Minnich led the girls with a 214 followed by Brooke Wehrkamp 213, Megan Monnin 193, Paige Holsapple 189 and Kelsey Berning 187. The Lady Panthers rolled a 702. The second game brought the Tigers to a 276 pin lead as they bowled an 827 to Parkway’s 845.

The Lady Panthers did take two of the baker games, but the Lady Tigers took the win with a final pin count of 2,658 to Parkway’s 2,293. The Lady Tigers are now 8-3 on the season. "These girls had a few tough weeks about mid-season. I am extremely proud of them for not giving up and having some really good matches over the last 4 weeks. They are really starting to put some nice scores together."
