Gathering at Garst to Feature History of Darke County's Towns and Villages

Darke County Towns and Villages are cordially invited to participate in The Gathering at Garst 2013 summer event on Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28, 2013. Held on the grounds of the Garst Museum in Greenville, this will be the third year for the Gathering. The Gathering was created to remember the defining events and people who shaped our county’s history. The Gathering’s mission is to promote awareness and appreciation of those who made unique contributions to the culture of Darke County and to celebrate local heritage in a family-oriented and educational atmosphere. Last year it is estimated that nearly 10,000 people attended The Gathering at Garst.

The theme this year is “Reflecting on the History of Darke County Towns and Villages.” Our goal is to have an exhibit from each community showcasing its own unique history. The exhibits will be showcased in a large tent provided by The Gathering Committee. We feel that citizens can best tell the story of their community. This is an excellent opportunity to share your enthusiasm about your community with an audience of thousands of Gathering visitors. We hope you will join us in sharing with visitors what Darke County is about and why we all think it is such a great place!

An informative meeting will take place on Sunday, March 24 at Garst Museum at 2:00. We invite you to send a representative(s) from your community to come and learn more about how your community can be a part of this exhibit. If you have any questions, please call Sue Besecker at 548-9084 or 471-6038 or email her at suebee848@gmail.com.
