Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey this morning at a press statement announced the arrests of Bryant Rhoades and Trevin Sanders for the November 2011 homicides of Robert and Colleen Grube in their rural Fort Recovery home. Rhoades was arrested at his residence just outside of Greenville and Sanders has been served in the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City, IN, where he is serving a sentence on an unrelated charge.

Bryant Rhoades, 22, of Union City, OH is currently charged with one count of obstructing justice, a felony of the third degree. He made an initial appearance in Celina Municipal Court at 4:00 PM yesterday where his bond was set at $3,500,000 subject to 10%. He currently remains in the Mercer County Adult Detention facility.

Trevin Sanders, 18, of Union City, OH has been charged with Aggravated Murder, two counts of aggravated homicide for the murders of Robert and Colleen Grube. Aggravated murder specifies that he purposely, with prior calculation and design, caused the death of Robert and Colleen Grube by means of a firearm. He also is charged with kidnapping, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and other charges. His charges have been filed in Mercer County Juvenile Court as he was 17 at the time of the crimes. Arrangements are being made to transport him back to Mercer County to face the charges.

During the course of the investigation, 179 court documents (orders, subpoenas, search warrants) were executed, 329 interviews were conducted, and 88 tips were received and followed up on. Every effort was made to follow every tip and every lead.

Investigators have been to Indiana, southern Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee, during the course of this investigation. “This case was an all-out effort of law enforcement in these states. Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification has been instrumental in helping us, providing lab services, and investigators,” stated Sheriff Grey. “This effort was an example of how law enforcement is supposed to work.”

A special thanks to the Randolph and Jay County, IN Sheriff’s Offices, the Darke County, Ohio Sheriff’s Office, and the Coffee County, Tennessee Sheriff’s Office. These Sheriff’s Offices were available on a moment’s notice and provided valuable information. The United States Marshal’s Office was instrumental in helping us track down Rhoades and bring him into custody safely.
