Speakers for Diabetes Program

The Wayne HealthCare Diabetes Education Department will be sponsoring Diabetes Day on Saturday April 13, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to noon in the conference rooms at Wayne HealthCare in Greenville, Ohio.

The program is designed to provide education to individuals with diabetes and their family members or caregivers. The program consists of three speakers, diabetes educational handouts and refreshments. There will also be time to have your diabetes questions answered by the Certified Diabetes Educator at Wayne HealthCare.

The speakers will provide attendees with a wealth of information to help them to live healthy lives with diabetes. The goal at Wayne HealthCare is to provide educational opportunities to help individuals manage their diabetes. The speakers and topics include:

  • Scott Barry DDS with Barry Family Dentistry will discuss “Diabetes and Dental Health”. Many individuals do not realize that elevated blood glucose can increase the risk for dental problems like cavities, oral infections, gum disease or dry mouth. Statistics show that adults aged 45 years or older, with uncontrolled diabetes (A1C >9%) were 2.9 times more likely to have severe gum disease than those without diabetes. As a diabetic many things can increase blood glucose levels including oral infections/problems.
  • Matthew Painting DPM with Western Ohio Podiatric Medical Center will discuss “Diabetes and Foot Care”. Knowing how to care for ones feet will lower the risk of developing foot complications. Early discovery and treatment of foot injuries or problems can prevent serious complications. Lowing the risk of diabetic foot complications and foot care will be discussed during this presentation.
  • Karen Droesch RD,LD,CDE the Diabetes Educator at Wayne HealthCare will discuss “Beating the Odds”. Have you ever wondered how to lower your risk of developing diabetes complications? Karen will discuss skills and preventative screenings everyone with diabetes should complete to lower their risk of developing complications. Diabetes does not mean you will develop severe complications, if you take steps to monitor your health.
