Dayton Bomb Squad Responds to Single Car Accident in Darke County

On August 10, 2014 at approximately 2200 hours, the Darke County 911 Center received a call of a single car accident with injury on SR49 near East Alternate SR49. Arcanum Rescue, Arcanum Police Department, Arcanum Rescue Squad and Darke County Deputies were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival it was found that the occupants from the crashed vehicle were hiding in a field. The occupants were identified as Trevor Botsford, age 26, his wife Killian Botsford, age 26, and their two children ages three and one. Mr. and Mrs. Botsford reported that they were hiding in the field because they were being followed by another person from Michigan who was trying to cause harm to them and their children. No visible injuries were found on any of the occupants, but were transported to Wayne Health Care to be examined further. Deputies were unable to locate the person who was reportedly chasing the Botsford Family.

As deputies questioned Ms. Botsford, she reported that there was a bomb in the car. Deputies approached the vehicle and observed many exposed wires hanging from the dashboard area and the headliner. With the assistance of the Arcanum Fire Department a safety perimeter was established, the immediate area of SR49 and East Alternate SR49 was closed to all approaching north bound and south bound traffic and the Dayton PD Bomb Squad was summoned to the scene. The Dayton Bomb squad examined the vehicle and reported that there were no explosives present. SR49 was reopened after having been closed for approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes.
