One Killed in Northern Darke County Accident, Speed and Alcohol May Be Factors

Update: As of this morning August 11, 2014 the Darke County Coroners Office has positively identified the deceased passenger as John W. Neal (39), of Anderson, Indiana.  This marks the 5th fatality in Darke County.

Original Post: On August 10, 2014 at approximately 1556 p.m. Darke County Deputies, Darke County Coroner’s Office, Darkc County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team, Darke County K-9, Ansonia Rescue, Ansonia Fire Department and Care flight were dispatched to the 3100 block of St. Rt. 47 in reference to a one vehicle fatal accident.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 2011 GMC Canyon driven by Jason Dirksen, 38, of Union City, Ohio was traveling west bound on St. Rt. 47 in the 3100 block. The truck was occupied by Rory Wampler, 40, of Ansonia, Ohio and a deceased male subject. The truck overcorrected across the centerline of roadway. The truck drove off the left side of roadway into a ditch. The truck over turned coming to rest on the driver’s side in a cornfield. The driver and rear passenger were flown to Miami Valley Hospital for there injuries. The front passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene. Preliminary investigation revealed speed and alcohol may be factors of the accident.

The identity of the deceased has not been confirmed by the coroner’s office and next of kin has not been notified.

Accident remains under investigation.
