Cardinal Center Arts Week 2015 A Success

On August 14, 2015, the Cardinal Center (Gettysburg School) opened its doors for Arts Week 2015. This free program was sponsored by the Friends of the Cardinal Center with the financial support of the Darke County Endowment for the Arts. The theme of the week was animal habitats and arts instructor Julie Brewer led the class in a week of creative discovery that included modeling a creature in clay, creating a habitat tunnel book and painting a scene from nature. The students were also introduced to a number of contemporary artists who work with animals and nature as their inspiration. The class met from 9 to 11 each morning and consisted of 27 students (grades 5-7) from Greenville, Arcanum, Bradford, Tri-Village, Franklin-Monroe and home schools. At the end of the week, the students treated friends and family to a public exhibition of their work. Pictures of the week’s activities can be viewed at facebook.com/cardinalcenterfriends.

With the success of the 2015 program, planning has begun for 2016. More time and inclusion of more grade levels are just a couple of changes parents and students can look forward to next year.
