Basic Judaism Classes in Piqua

Two brief sessions led by Rabbinic Intern Tina Sobo

Curious about Judaism? Come and learn some basics in two brief sessions. Both sessions will be held at Congregation Anshe Emeth, 320 Caldwell St. in Piqua, www.ansheemeth.org, a Reform Jewish congregation formed in 1858. This is the second year for the classes, with new topics.

Session 1 – Saturday, April 9, 2016 - 1:00 – 2:30 PM – Jewish Ritual Objects 101
Like any religion, there are certain objects that Jews use as part of worship and tradition – from things seen on a daily basis to those that come out only at certain times. We will look at a variety of ritual objects, in a “show and tell” type fashion, with explanations of when, where, how and why various ritual items are used in Judaism throughout the year. Come indulge your senses and your mind with us!

Session 2 – Saturday, May 7, 2016 - 1:00 – 2:30 PM – The Jewish Way in Death and Mourning
Death and Life-after-Death are “big questions” that Jews, like everyone else, must wrestle with in terms of belief. In this class we’ll delve into a brief exploration of Jewish beliefs in regards to what happens after death coupled with how those beliefs inform Jewish practices surrounding death and mourning.

Both sessions are open to all who wish to learn with an open mind. You do not need to attend both sessions to participate. The goal is to share information, not impose beliefs. Questions and comments are welcomed. Both sessions will be taught by Student Rabbi, Tina Sobo. Tina has her Master’s in Religious Education from Hebrew Union College, Cincinnati, OH and will be a fully ordained Rabbi in May 2016.

There is no charge for the class, however, reservations would be appreciated to Eileen, 937.623-1234 or ansheemeth@gmail.com
