High School Solo & Ensemble Contest

Musicianship was on the line recently as the students of The Workshop Learning Center instructed by Michelle Drees participated in the District XI Ohio Music Educators Association’s High School Solo & Ensemble Contest. “Diligent practice and attention to detail are crucial in preparation for this event,” commented Ms. Drees, their instructor, “and they must perform at the highest level to receive a superior rating “I” from the judges.” She noted that even a rating of II, excellent, meant the student had performed well above average.

Students receiving a superior rating were: Alex Vehre - Piano & Violin, Andrew Strait – Piano.

Students receiving an excellent rating were: Noah McCabe – Cello, Stevie Allen – Violin

Well known pianist in the community, Terri Fryman, accompanied several of the students in their performances at the event.

This event gives music students an opportunity to challenge themselves to improve and raise their level of skill and musicianship, according to Ms. Drees. Each student is judged at their own level, making it an event where everyone can improve and succeed.

Junior High Solo and Ensemble Contest will be held on April 16th in Bellefontaine. The Workshop Learning Center has several students participating in this event as well. A recital was be held on April 2nd at 2pm to help students prepare. The recital is free and open to the public and gives students experience in performing before an audience,
