16 Year Old Dead, 2 Passengers in Critical Condition After Crash at 127 and Kruckeburg Road

Update: The 16 year old driver pronounced dead at the scene of this traffic crash is identified as Elias Burr of Greenville.  The two other male children in the car are his siblings.  They remain at Children’s Medical Center and recent information suggests they are expected to survive their injuries.

On August 2, 2016 at approximately 5:13 PM Darke County Deputies, along with Greenville Township Fire, Greenville Township Rescue, Arcanum Rescue, Ansonia Rescue, Gettysburg Rescue, Union City Rescue, CareFlight, Ohio State Patrol Motor Carrier Enforcement, Ohio Department of Transportation and the Darke County Coroner’s Investigator were dispatched to the intersection of US Route 127 and Kruckeberg Road in reference to a two vehicle serious injury accident.

Preliminary investigation revealed a white 1999 Honda CRV driven by a 16 year old male of Greenville, Ohio was stopped at the posted stop sign on Kruckeberg Road at US Route 127. The 16 year old male attempted to travel west across US Route 127 when his vehicle was struck by a black 2006 Ford F-350 driven by Samuel M. Wengerd, 28, Geneva, Indiana which was traveling northbound on US Route 127. Both vehicles continued north traveling across the grass median and coming to rest in the southbound lanes of travel on US Route 127.

The 16 year old male driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The seven and nine year old male passenger of the CRV, both from Greenville, Ohio were transported to Children’s Hospital in Dayton Ohio by two separate CareFlight helicopters from the scene where they are listed in critical condition.

Wengerd was treated and released by EMS at the scene. Wengerd’s passengers, Jacob Schwartz, 19 and Marvin Schwartz, 21, both of Portland, Indiana were transported to Wayne Healthcare by Greenville Rescue and Ansonia Rescue where they were treated and released.

The Darke County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team also responded to the scene for further investigation.

This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office and The Darke County Coroners Office.
