Fort GreeneVille Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution is so very proud to report that Ohio DAR members have contributed $4,000+ in school supplies/books and $9,530 in $10 Walmart gift cards to date to Clendenin Elementary School in Clendenin, WV. Ohio DAR had participation from 81 of our 100 OSDAR chapters. These items were delivered by OSDAR SE Director Becky Underhill and OSDAR NE Director Reggie Watson on July 31. Clendenin Elementary School Principal, teachers, and students were so appreciative.
The donations collected will be used for Clendenin Elementary School in Clendenin, WV. Nearly all of Clendenin Elementary School was destroyed in the June 23 flood. They lost 96.9 percent of the building and contents. According to Dave Hardy, a Kanawha County commissioner, "It’s well beyond any possible chance of rehabilitation.” (http://wvmetronews.com/2016/08/01/kanawha-county-teachers-to-return-to-school-following-june-flood/)
Clendenin Elementary plans to open on time, August 8. OSDAR NE District Director Reggie Watson has family, among them a cousin who works in the school affected by the devastation. Watson cannot tell you how humbled (and excited) these teachers are knowing that they will be able to give their young students a positive experience that first day of school, considering the devastation they have suffered since June 23. The majority of these educators had personally provided the reading books and craft materials used in their classrooms.
OSDAR Regent, Nancy Schirm Wright has approved a second cutoff of August 15th to receive additional donations of $10 Walmart gift cards. The Ohio Society Daughters of the American Revolution (including Fort GreeneVille Chapter DAR) is asking for $10.00 WalMart gift card donations to go towards the OSDAR "Our Sowing Seeds of Service, Outreach and Love" project. The donations collected will be used for Clendenin Elementary School in Clendenin, WV.
