Driver and Passenger Airlifted After Head On Collision

On February 2, 2018 at approximately 12:23 PM Darke County Deputies, along with Pitsburg Fire, Arcanum Fire, Arcanum Rescue and CareFlight were dispatched to the intersection of State Route 49 and Karr Road in reference to a two vehicle head-on accident.  Preliminary investigation revealed a grey 2017 Chevy Cruz driven by David C. Dirksen, 21 of New Weston, Ohio was traveling northbound on State Route 49 near Karr Road. Dirksen’s vehicle traveled left of the centerline striking a 2007 International straight truck/tanker, driven by Stephen R. Pour, 62 of Troy, Ohio.

As a result of the head-on collision Dirksen was ejected from the vehicle and his front seat passenger, Kelsey Evers, 20 of Ft. Recovery, Ohio was trapped in the vehicle. Fire and Rescue crews freed Evers by non-mechanical means. Both vehicle’s traveled off the roadway coming to rest in a ditch. 

The Darke County Sheriff’s Office Accident reconstruction team also responded to the scene for further investigation.  Dirksen and Evers were transported to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight where they are listed in serious condition. Mr. Pour was treated and released from the scene. 

This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
