GREENVILLE – The Empowering Darke County Youth Board of Directors and volunteers are pleased to introduce a new logo for the organization. It was designed by Middle School (5-6) Visual Arts Educator Julie Brewer.

“I can’t thank Julie enough for taking the time to help us out,” said Bob Robinson, Empowering Program Coordinator. “She didn’t charge us for the effort, but we made a small contribution toward whatever needs she had in her classroom as a thank you.”

Mrs. Brewer expressed her thanks, noting the funds will help purchase shelving for ceramic projects in her class.

Robinson noted that the logo was perfect in its simplicity and versatility. “We can use it in a variety of venues, color or black and white. It also expresses visually exactly what we do in our organization.”

Empowering has established two new committees and is inviting any interested members of the community to help support its efforts.

There will be a Marketing Committee meeting at the Greenville Public Library Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the Reference Room on the second floor. There will also be a Volunteer meeting at Edison State Community College on Wagner Avenue Nov. 7 at 6:30 p.m. Both meetings are open to community members of all ages who want to help.

“We currently have 124 students signed up for our After School Tutoring Program,” said Robinson. “We work with an average of 50 students, kindergarten through eighth grade, on a daily basis. This is nearly double the students we worked with last year. The need is there… we need help meeting that need.”
