Game of the week: Versailles 33, Oakwood 14

Whatever happened to 3 yards and a cloud of dust? The Versailles Tigers opened the 2009 football season with a no-huddle spread offense that had Oakwood tied in knots all night. Versailles didn't hand off to a running back the entire game - and instead continued the passing game even through driving rain storms. The Versailles Tigers are for real this year. Next up for Versailles ... away at Graham. Next up for Darke Journal: ??? [Bonus: tigerballonline.net has a bunch of pictures of the game here.]

  2. 3 yards and a cloud of dust is BORING football. If it gets the wins, go ahead and use it. But if you aren't winning with it, it needs changd. Olwin (head coach at Versailles now) came from Fairview, in the Defiance area, where he ran the spread with a lot of success. Many of his players are now in D1 colleges on full scholarships. So long as the team accepts the change and adapts to the different style of blocking on the offensive line (which was slow to occur last season), Versailles will give many teams problems this year.
