Any new ideas for the website?

What do you want to see here? Any ideas for improvement?

One idea under consideration is an internet version of "Market Time." List your items for sale, wanted to buy, garage sales, trade offers, lost and found, whatever. All on a separate page linked from the main page (like the obituaries. And all free. Does that idea interest anyone?

And just a reminder - you're all free to submit press releases, op-eds, funny stories, photos, etc.

  1. That sounds like a good idea. I think anything to get more people interested in your website. The more there is to offer the more popular it becomes. Have you thought about advertising your website throughout Darke County ??

  2. I think having a classifieds section is a great idea.

  3. I think requireing info from those that post would be a VERY good idea. Think of what would happen if someone started posting threats or something. Yes you the All Mighty review them but don't you as a legal person think knowing who is saying what might be a good idea?

  6. There is nothing wrong with the anonymous option. There are ways to track the submission back, i'm sure. so if someone posted something threatening or whatever, I'm sure Darke Journal and trace it back.

At any rate, anonymity is commonplace on internet forums. This site is not an exception. If you require people to identify themselves, you may see a significant drop in participation.

What about implementing a way for us to create screen names that would have entering your real name voluntary? Then, at least I can form a view that separates Anaonymous 1 from anonymous 2, if they are significant contributors (if this is available via one of the services below, how about posting some instruction on the best way to use those)?

  7. just curious -

i have had those same thoughts. right now, and commenter can put a name on his/her comment, just as you have. i've considered requiring people to do this.

you can go one step further and require people to have a google id to comment, but as you mentioned, i think there would be far fewer comments.

eventually, one or the other will occur

  8. I think a online market time would be great. You can't ever get through and the guy who reads the e-mail can't read.
You could start a parent chat to.So parents who think there alone in certain things no that other folks can relate

  9. I would like a current post on local goverment and what they are doing. It would be nice to get what is going on in the courthouse out and about. That would make a difference come election time I think if people knew the inside scoop.

  10. I like the idea of having people register but not requiring them to give any personal info. It'd be nice to see the returning posters have an identity, even if i don't know who they really are.

  11. I totally agree with the poster at 12:42 PM. Let's all become more aware of what is happening in our local government.

  12. I think we need an Obama joke of the day. Well, one other than his continuing presidency!

  13. Along with that we could have a Rush drug/fat joke of the day. Those never get old.

  14. Just because the admin of the site is a strong conservative does not mean that the site should regress to being consumed with that as its identity.

If the politics of the admin presents a shade of color over the site, fine. but if it completely colors it I think you lose the purpose (or my perceived purpose) of the site... to be a blog about and for Darke county and all of its inhabitants.

  15. Awesome! From your comments, I assume that you don't watch network news, cable news, or read newspapers. I would hate to create some sort of conservative media bias ... because we've never before had something like that in our country! Haha.

In all seriousness, you are correct. I try to keep the site as apolitical as possible. But sometimes I can't help myself.

  16. I can feel your pain, DJ. It is hard to be "telling it like it is" when "telling it like it isn't" just seems too convenient for so many news outlets. I guess putting a little effort into things is just too much for some networks.
