Craig Stammen wins in return to majors

After a brief stop in the minors, Versailles' Craig Stammen was called up Tuesday to start the Nationals' game against the Braves.

Stammen made the most of the second chance, winning the game with this line: 7.1 IP, 5H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 4K, raising his record to 2-2.

Stammen also helped his cause at the plate with an RBI-sac fly. Great job Craig!

  1. Craig is a great young man on and off the field.....whatever happens in his career, Craig should be an inspiration for every young high school athlete. He was not a "star" in high school......but he believed in himself..... was obviously very coachable and likeable and worked very hard. That allowed the coaches in college and beyond to get him where he is today.
It is a great lesson in that it is "ok" not to be #1...you still have a lot to offer. There have been a lot of #1s that have not gone nearly as far up the ranks as Craig has.
While there obviously needs to be natural talent...who you are in the inside.....how you treat others....a great work ethic....and
a little luck can open doors many others never get the chance to walk thru.
I hope Craig's career inspires many darke county athletes to accept where they are in the lineups and keep treading on thru all the setbacks!

  2. Very happy for Craig. A great asset to Darke County.

At the same time, I would like to begin petition to have some kind of monument made of Matt Light as he has been such a positive force for our local community and continues to give back.

    Hooray for local heroes!
