COLLEGE ACCESS PROGRAM RECOGNIZES 12 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

The Darke County College Access Program honored its 12 scholarship recipients during an awards reception earlier this month. “We are pleased that we were able to award four new scholarships to Ansonia and Greenville High School graduates, said Beth Sears, executive director of the College Access Program. “In addition, we renewed eight scholarships.” The College Access Program awarded four new scholarships to Brittany Doseck, Olivia Resor, Kate Schmitmeyer and Kayla Young.

  • Brittany Doseck, a 2010 Greenville High School graduate, will be a freshman at Ball State University where she plans to major in architecture. She is the daughter of James and Bonnie Doseck.
  • Olivia Resor, a 2010 Greenville High School graduate, will be a freshman at Wright State University where she plans to major in computer science. She is the daughter of Scott Resor.
  • Kate Schmitmeyer, a 2010 Ansonia High School graduate, will be a freshman at Case Western Reserve University where she plans to major in biology. She is the daughter of Paul and Carol Schmitmeyer.
  • Kayla Young, a 2010 Ansonia High School graduate, will be a freshman at The Ohio State University where she plans to major in radiology. She is the daughter of Kenneth and Shannon Young.

The College Access Program also renewed eight scholarships for previous recipients. Scholarship award winners may renew their scholarships for up to four years if they maintain eligibility. “We’ve had several of our recipients graduate,” Sears said. The program had four students renew for a second year, two students for a third year, and two students for a fourth year. Students receiving DCCAP scholarships grants are required to maintain a good academic standing and to perform 15 hours of community service in Darke County each year that they receive the grant. Those renewing scholarships included Rachel Foureman, Renee Schmitmeyer, Matt Suter, Alan Wombolt, Kelsi Eberst, Claire McKinney, Tyler Luce, and Hannah McKinney.

  • Rachel Foureman, a 2008 Greenville High School graduate, is a junior at The Ohio State University, where she is majoring in animal science. She is the daughter of John and Melissa Foureman.
  • Renee Schmitmeyer, a 2009 Ansonia High School graduate, is a sophomore at Case Western Reserve University , where she plans to major in biomedical engineering. She is the daughter of Paul and Carol Schmitmeyer.
  • Matt Suter, a 2009 Greenville High School graduate, will be a sophomore at Miami University where he plans to major in botany. He is the son of Linda Suter and David Suter.
  • Alan Wombolt, a 2006 Ansonia High School graduate, is a senior at Ball State University where he is majoring in criminal justice. He is the son of Carrie Guillozet and Michael Guillozet.
  • Kelsi Eberst, a 2008 Greenville High School graduate, is a junior at Wright State University where she is double majoring in chemistry and biology with a pre-med option. She is the daughter of Larry and Melina Eberst.
  • Claire McKinney, a 2008 Greenville High School graduate, is a junior at Valparaiso University where she is majoring in nursing. She is the daughter of Mike and Anne McKinney.
  • Tyler Luce, a 2007 Greenville High School graduate, is a senior at Wright State University where he is majoring in education. He is the son of Allen and Tracey Luce.
  • Hannah McKinney, a 2007 Greenville High School graduate, is a senior at Loyola University - Chicago where she is majoring in political science and philosophy. She is the daughter of Anne and Mike McKinney.

During the reception, Tyler Luce, Claire McKinney, Rachel Foureman and Renee Schmitmeyer shared their college experiences and future plans. Also during the reception, the College Access Program recognized its volunteers, including Becky Peltz, Dr. Norm Cutright, Nancy Hemer, Anne McKinney, Tonya Schlecty, Dr. Alex Warner, Bonnie Seger and Mike Barker.

The Darke County College Access Program is a non-profit organization designed to help more students achieve post-secondary education. It offers programming, one-on-one mentoring and scholarships. It is funded through grants as well as donations from local businesses and individuals.
