ONE PATIENT AIRLIFTED FOLLOWING MOTORCYCLE CRASH

On August 13th, 2010 at approximately 11:02 PM, the Darke County Sheriff's Office along with Versailles Fire Department, Versailles Rescue, Versailles Police Department and Careflight were dispatched to State Route 47 North of Studer Road in reference to a motorcycle accident.

A preliminary investigation has revealed a motorcycle was traveling westbound on State Route 47 when the drive failed to negotiate a curve, driving off the left side of the road. The motorcycle rolled into a bean field after striking the ditch, coming to rest on top of the driver. A passing motorist observed the motorcycle in the field and called 9-1-1. This same person also assisted a Versailles Firefighter and Versailles Police Officer with lifting the motorcycle off of the injured person.

The driver of the motorcycle was airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton with critical injuries.

This accident remains under investigation.
