The Greenville boys and girls cross country teams are gearing up for their big meet this Saturday, September 4th, 2010 —the Treaty City Cross Country Invitational.
If you have never been out by the Greenville Park for this annual event – tomorrow is your chance to do so. Over 1000 high school athletes will descend upon the park on this invitational. Chairman, Ed Porter stated that over 80 teams are scheduled to participate- which is up 8 teams from last year.
The event is a fundraiser for the Greenville Athletic Department, Greenville Athletic Boosters, as well as the Cross Country Team. The club also provides many of the volunteers for the race. Porter said the volunteers are key to the race being successful. There have been people already helping out, getting the course in race shape, and will be doing many different things during the day, including parking. The city’s parks department has also been hard at work getting the grounds around the park ready for the runners.
Please come out and support the Greenville Athletic Booster Concession Stand Located next to the Masonic Temple Lodge. A wide variety of food will be available including marinated chicken breast, shredded chicken and grilled cheeseburgers. The Greenville Cross Country Team will be selling T-Shirts as well.
This is by far my favorite sporting event in Greenville. These are some of the hardest working athletes and it deserves more coverage and community support. Come out and enjoy our beautiful park being used--you will not be disappointed!
ReplyDeleteI agree! My daughter participated in the invitational when she was in school. It was among the best we attended. I wish these athletes got more attention. They work as hard as any other athletes.
ReplyDeleteI ran in this event my 8th Grade year and it was by far the coolest event of the whole year I loved it !
ReplyDeleteI was there today and heard many people from out of town comment on how this is by far the best event of the year. Way to go Wave.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful weather and a well-organized event. Thanks Greenville Athletic Department and Boosters!
ReplyDeleteWay to go Bailey. All that hard work has paid off and you are doing great.
ReplyDeleteEd Porter was hired to organize this event and did a great job. He went over and above, especially since they had to change the courses due to the lagoon mess. Without him, this event could not have taken place.
ReplyDeleteThey would probably get more credit and attention from the public and their fellow students if the AD would acknowledge them also. Example: During thepep rally at school the day before the event not even a mention of Cross Country or Volleyball as Fall sports, oh and by the way this is second year CC was omitted.
ReplyDeleteAnnoyed, that is just ridiculous. Someone needs to answer for that if that indeed is true. I don't doubt your word at all but it is hard to imagine how that could happen. The CC runners must have really felt the support huh?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 11:21am just ask any high school student that attended the pep rally on Sep, 3 And you will no that yes this did happen. It makes us realy feel that the AD and staff that so much want to support the kids and need new buildings realy DO!!
ReplyDeleteTo annoyed parent. Sadly, Cross Country is the lowest sport on the totem poll at most schools. It is just not Greenville that treats the athletes this way. We have close connections with two other cross country programs, and I know for a fact one of the southern Darke County small schools seldom acknowledges cross country, nor does a very large school in a neighboring county. Guess my point is you are not alone in the frustration for your school. Good luck on rest of the season.
ReplyDeleteTo 11:21 and annoyed parent, yes if this happened, it would be a bit upsetting, but do you really think this was done intentionally? This event is probably the biggest event the athletic department puts on. If the AD and the athletic department truly did not support the CC team, this event would not even take place.
ReplyDeleteThe way your talking, I guess I would have to figure then that the Band has something against the girls golf team. They are the ones who do the fall sports program to sell at the football games and all the teams pictures are in it except the girls golf team...why doesn't the band like girls golf??? I'm sure they actually have nothing against girls golf and it was a honest oversight just like at the pep rally, but we will always have people around here who take anything good someone trys doing and rips them apart. It is much easier tearing others down for trying to do something than actually trying to do something yourself.
It's the lowest sport on the totem pole because it's not really a sport. It's for kids that aren't good at any real sports like football and basketball!
ReplyDelete@harey carey...are you serious??? my daughter trains extremely hard for this sport. can you do 6-8 miles a day, ab workouts, sprint runs, and anything else the coach decides to throw their way during a single practice 5 days a week, not mentioning during the hot summer? not to mention run 3 miles in under 20 minutes? i didn't think so. our district and region is the toughest/most competitive in the state of ohio for cross country and track. sometime when you have a minute, check out baumspage.com and see how well the local kids succeed against the remaining kids in the state...i think you will be amazed.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see you tell the girl from versailles and miami east that was state champs last year, that they aren't in a "real" sport.
Nice bait! When was the last time your big tailend had a heart beat above resting? Why are you initiating negativity? Go run or walk!
ReplyDeleteTo Harey Carey-
ReplyDeleteWhat will do you more good in life? The running you start to do during your school years and continue throughout your life keeping in great shape. Or, the football and basketball you will play for a few years, screw up your knees, and end up fat and out of shape later in life as your unable to work out like you should, thanks to those bad knees. Sincerely, An Ex football player and father of a runner.
