“ART AT THE MILL” FEATURES TIMELESS TALENTS

Cabinets crafted by Bruce Bayman will complement the intimate expressionistic paintings of Evelyn Mahrt in the art exhibit opening at historic Bear’s Mill on Friday, September 24. The exhibiting artists will be guests of honor at an opening night reception; hours for the reception are 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

According to Mill Store Retail Manager Julie Clark, Piqua artist Evelyn Mahrt creates lovely paintings which communicate with the viewer. “Evie’s work expresses her personal vision, but her perspective is timeless and universal,” said Mrs. Clark. “Almost no one looks at Evie’s evocative paintings without being transported to a beautiful place,” Mrs. Clark stated.

The Mill spokesperson then addressed the exhibit’s second featured artist, saying that while Bruce Bayman’s cabinets are created for practical use in today’s homes, his pieces are also timeless, bearing the look of age, the feeling of well-worn use. “Bruce’s high quality work is inspired by folk artists and cabinet makers of the past, and are produced with a regard for detail and finish not often found in today’s market,” Mrs. Clark remarked. “The Mill Gallery is a perfect venue for Bruce’s remarkable furniture,” she concluded.

The paintings of Sandra Cable-Barringer plus sculpture and pottery by Scott Thayer will be on display at historic Bear’s Mill through Sunday, September 19. “Art at the Mill” is on view during regular Mill store hours, 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and on Sundays, and 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturdays. Bear’s Mill is operated by The Friends of Bear’s Mill, a non-profit organization, and is located at 6450 Arcanum-Bear’s Mill Road about 5 miles east of Greenville.
