Fire on East Main Street in Greenville

A Sunday Morning fire was discovered by a passerby at 700 E. Main St. in Greenville. Crews responding encountered heavy fire and smoke coming from the rear of the house. A first alarm assignment was asked for by the OIC bringing all off duty personnel as well as New Madison and Ansonia for a second and Rapid Intervention Crew. (RIC) A RIC team is standard response in the county on structural fires and their only job is safety of the interior crews. As crews worked on the fire the Red Cross was called to assist the inhabitants of the home. There was extensive damage and the cause is still under investigation. As part of the RIC and Rehab function Greenville TWP EMS responded to the scene and the called for Ansonia Area EMS also who took over the Rehab station for the firefighters exiting the building. As this fire wound down, New Madison received a report of a field fire on Arcanum-Hollansburg RD. Remaining crews on their station responded and immediately asked for grass rigs from Pitsburg, Arcanum and West Manchester. In this picture, New Madison’s Engine 1146 is responding to the fire. Turn from SR 503 after being released from the Greenville Run.

A couple minutes later Greenville Twp. Received a report of a field fire in the north end of the township. They were released from the Main St fire and Engine 541 responded with GTFD Grass rig to the north township line. These fires were quickly extinguished by arriving crews. There were many more runs during the day prompting a word of caution to people starting trash fires. Until we get some rain, it’s probably not a good idea. [info from badge1] ... update from whiotv.com is here.

  1. badge1 you information is not all correct. DJ i thought you verified all info coming through your site. Ansonia EMS never took over rehab from GTR. Ansonia was called to the scene because one of GTR crews had a victim from the fire. Badge1 don't worry, you aren't the only one that gave incorrect information. Steve Baker for WHIOtv stated that a victim was taken to Wayne health care then later transfer to a dayton hospital. Wrong, GTR flew the patient by careflight to MVH. The patient never went to Wayne. I wish people would get their facts straight before commenting. Steve Baker should really check his facts, I can't believe he gets paid for repoting false facts.

  2. 6:34 - you need to read the visitors agreement at the bottom of this page. There is a lot of info on this site, but I don't guarantee the accuracy of any of it. You can come here and enjoy this website ... for free ... with the understanding that with the transmission of a bunch of information (including reader submitted info), some may be inaccurate.

However, I will go one step further in saying that in 1.5 years of doing this site, I can assure you that I could never fully satisfy the "insiders" on fire-related issues. If I reported the sky was blue, three people would write in to correct me. If I wrote that fire was hot, somebody would send me links allegedly proving otherwise.

I don't even really think that a fire is news, unless it happens to an important business, or government office perhaps, or something like that. But there were several nice photos submitted on a slow news Sunday - so I included it.

As far as badge1 goes, he has provided me with many stories and photos over the last year. Nobody has ever complained about his info. And even if he was occasionally wrong, I would still print his stuff because he is a valued contributor to this site. Likewise with Steve Baker.

You might enjoy the fire blog for further conversation ....

  3. It's just my opinion but I believe DJ does an excellent and do the best he can with the resources he has. I do think this sort of thing is news just on the point that it shows the community that our firefighters are doing a great job helping our community.

    Thank You

My comment had nothing to do with fire related issuses. It was about reporting news that is accurate. We already get enough misleading info from the mainstream media. You don't have to post this. Just trying to exlain to you what my point was in the first comment. Its not really a big deal at all.
