The HOPE Foundation Supports Garst Lecture Series

Dr. Clay Johnson, the Garst Museum executive director, and Christy Prakel, president of the HOPE Foundation of Darke County, review the next lecture in the 2010-2011 Lecture Series which will be held on February 20. The lecture series is free and open to the public. These educational and entertaining presentations are part of the museum’s mission to provide quality programs for the benefit of Darke County residents.

The HOPE Foundation receives, administers and distributes charitable gifts for the benefit of the community. For the second year, grants from the Ami McClurkin Community Fund were awarded to four organizations that are dedicated to enriching the lives of Darke County residents. The 2010 recipients include Garst Museum, which will use its grant to sponsor lectures and special programs at the museum.

Dr. Johnson stated, “The Garst Lecture Series has become a very popular event for the museum. It is exciting to watch the community’s interest in the lectures grow. The museum looks forward to the continued development of the lecture series and is very thankful to the HOPE Foundation’s assistance in facilitating such an important program for our community.”

The next lecture in the Garst Lecture Series will be on February 20, at 2:00. The topic of this presentation will be Black History, as Roane Smothers will share stories of those in the Longtown area and Darke County who left to fight in the Civil War. The topic will be Longtown and its connection to Civil War history.

The Garst Museum wishes to thank the HOPE Foundation and Ami McClurkin for their support.
