Rodney Atkins to perform at 2011 Great Darke County Fair

The Board of Directors for the Darke County Agricultural Society are pleased to announce that Rodney Atkins will perform at the 155th Great Darke Fair on Sunday, August 21st at 8 PM.

All seats are reserved with Track seating at $25.00 each and Grandstand seating at $23.00 each. Tickets go on sale Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 9 AM via internet (www.darkecountyfair.com) and by phone; 800-736-3671/937-548-5044 using a debit or credit card. Beginning Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 9 AM, tickets may also be purchased at the Fair Box Office located at 800 Sweitzer Street, Greenville OH.

There’s a very good reason that no less than four songs from Rodney Atkins’ platinum-selling 2006 album If You’re Going Through Hell became No. 1 hits—a feat that no one had accomplished since 2002. It’s the same reason that two of those songs became the most-played of 2006 (“If You’re Going Through Hell [Before the Devil Even Knows]”) and 2007 (“Watching You”), and why concert audiences all over the country are cheering him on and singing along.

Atkins makes that connection again and again on his much-anticipated new album, It’s America. Just listen to the down-home philosophy of “Got It Good” and “Tell a Country Boy,” the heartfelt balladry of “The River Knows,” the fist pumping feel good “It’s America” and much more from across the musical and emotional spectrum. “I try to sing songs with an honest view of ourselves, of myself, of the struggle, of the laughter,” he says. “It’s about being human."

The chart-topping, platinum-selling If You’re Going Through Hell gave Atkins his true breakthrough. In addition to the overwhelming radio and video airplay, he earned the Academy of Country Music’s Top New Male Vocalist award, plus five other ACM nominations and two Country Music Association nominations. He has also had the opportunity to amass some amazing memories—from public moments like performing for a half-million people at the National Memorial Day concert in Washington, D.C., to private ones like getting to thank hero Garth Brooks for his inspiration. He’s performed for former President George W. Bush twice. He’s toured with the superstar likes of Brad Paisley, Brooks & Dunn, Martina McBride and ZZ Top. 4. They had STYX and REO Speedwagon not that long ago...I don't believe those were country acts. Outdated, yes, country no.
I do recognize one song this guy has out, so I guess I have "heard" him, but not heard of him. If that makes sense.
And, BE is right. We are not all country bumpkins around here. That being said, I think that the country acts are more apt to play fairs while the pop or rock groups prefer the arena or stadium settings. You never hear of any of those types of groups playing fair grandstands like they used to.
