Visual theatre artist Leland Faulkner will present a unique program for fourth through sixth graders in local public schools from March 7 through 11, closing the Darke County Center for the Arts 2010-2011 Arts In Education series. “Leland captures imaginations by using illusion, shadowplay, and folk tales from around the world,” said DCCA Artistic Director Keith Rawlins. “His presentation inspires creativity, a positive effect which lingers long after the performance has ended,” Rawlins concluded. Leland Faulkner’s school performances are free and open to the public.
DCCA’s Arts In Education series presents performing artists to all grade levels in each Darke County and Greenville City public school at no cost to the students. These performances are made possible by donations from Dayton Power & Light Company Foundation, Bocholt Foundation, Greenville Federal, Vectren Energy Delivery of Ohio, Maid-Rite Sandwich Shoppe, The Andersons, Edison Community College, Littman Thomas Agency, Mercer Savings Bank, Greenville Rotary Club, Criterion Club, and Beta Sigma Xi Delta Alpha Chapter; participating schools also contribute to the program.
DCCA also receives support from Harry D. and Esther Stephens Memorial, Lydia E. Schaurer Memorial Trust Fund, and Ketrow Foundation. In addition, the Ohio Arts Council helps fund Darke County Center for the Arts with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence, and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans.
Leland Faulkner will also present his show “Worlds of Wonder” on Sunday, March 13 at 2 p.m. at Henry St. Clair Memorial Hall as part of DCCA’s Family Theatre Series. Tickets for this performance are $5, and may be reserved by contacting DCCA at 937-547-0908 or dcca@centerforarts.net. Additionally, tickets will be available at the door. More information regarding specific times for the A.I.E. performances which are scheduled to coordinate with schools’ schedules may also be obtained by contacting DCCA.
