Adams addresses GOP Women

Representative for the 79th District Richard N. Adams
addresses the Darke County Republican Women's Club
at recent regular monthly meeting.
Representative Richard N. Adams (R-79) updated the Darke County Republican Women’s Club regarding his committee work and some current general activities of the Ohio House of Representatives. Adams is serving his second term in the Ohio House. Adams is Chair of the Financial Institutions, Housing and Urban Development Committee and serves on the Commerce and Labor Committee, Finance and Appropriations Committee, and the Health and Human Services Subcommittee. During this year, the number of committees in the House has been cut almost in half.

The Ohio legislature is struggling to pass a balanced budget prior to the June 30 deadline. There will be no stimulus monies to work with this year.

“If Medicaid is not fixed, there’s not going to be any money for education, agriculture or anything else. Every tax dollar you sent to Columbus – 40 cents goes directly to pay for Medicaid. Give you a comparison, 38 cents will go for education, 11 cents for prisons, and the percentage goes down from there. We must gain control of Medicaid!”

“Ohioans, like Americans are generous people. They are supportive and if somebody needs the medical treatment they don’t have the financial means to pay for it, we understand that.” said Adams.

Adams commended Darke County officials for fiscal responsibility in handling the stimulus monies received previously and for not using them to finance items that would require financing in future years. Other legislative items being dealt with in the House, mentioned by Adams, were: 2nd Amendment rights, abortion and privatization of some government activities. Adams stated that he meets with one employer in his 79th District each week to discuss the economic climate and the employers’ concerns.

The Darke County Republican Women’s Club meets on the second Monday of each month, excluding January and August. The next meeting will be a special social event at the Greenville Country Club on July 16.
