Greenville Transit System Emergency Evacuation Training

On September 13, 2011, the Greenville Fire Department and Greenville Transit System drivers/staff held Bus Emergency Evacuation Training. The training was held during the monthly Safety Meeting and involved review of emergency evacuation procedures in case of a fire, smoke on the bus, or a roll over. The training emphasized getting wheelchair passenger off the bus in a safe and timely manner and demonstrated the use of the manual lift operation, emergency exits, seat belt cutter, and the use of the Fire Extinguisher and a blanket for removing passengers. The three Greenville City firemen who help put on the demonstration included Mike Hohler, Shawn Brandenburg and Daniel Myers. This training will be given annually in September and with new drivers as they are hired. Special thanks to Bus Driver Allen Cox for providing additional information he has learned as a School Bus Driver. MV Transportation, who operates the Greenville Transit for the City, has heavy emphasis on Bus Safety Training and Emergency Bus Evacuation is just one of the topics taught monthly to all Safety Sensitive staff.

General Manager, Kathy Cool, would like to thank the Fire Department for helping put on this successful Safety Meeting. Greenville Transit System is funded in part by ODOT, grants, the City of Greenville and passenger fares.
