EDISON COMMUNITY COLLEGE SPONSORS GOODNIGHT MOON AND OTHER PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN

Edison Community College has donated funds to Darke County Center for the Arts’ Family Theatre Series and Arts In Education programs. Ryan Honeyman and Julie Slattery, of Edison Community College, toured St. Clair Memorial Hall in Greenville with Bettye Laughlin who serves on the board for Edison Community College and is also a board member and hospitality coordinator for Darke County Center for the Arts. According to Bettye, “Edison Community College demonstrates its commitment to our community through their contribution, providing opportunities for children and youth to experience professional, educational, and creativity inspiring programs.” She continued, “I am proud to be part of these two organizations that recognize the benefits children enjoy from participating in the Arts.”

Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny will open DCCA’s 2011-2012 Family Theatre Series at St. Clair Memorial Hall in Greenville on Sunday, November 20. Whimsical puppetry and charming original music help vividly unfold the cherished celebration of familiar nighttime rituals. Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia has delighted crowds in recent years with The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Frederick, Swimmy and Inch By Inch. This year they will once again capture the imaginations of the audience with their unique and creative presentation of two classic stories which evoke a comforting sense of security and peace for children and adults alike.

Tickets to the 2:00 p.m. performance are $5 and may be purchased at Readmore’s Hallmark in Greenville, Worch Memorial Public Library in Versailles, and the Corner Cupboard in Union City, or by contacting DCCA at 937-547-0908 or dcca@centerforarts.net .

DCCA’s Arts In Education program annually takes professional performing artists to all grades of all Greenville City and Darke County schools. Lyle Cogen visited grades 4-6 in September with her program on bullying in schools. Also in September, Kuniko Yamamoto shared music, mask and mime of Japan with students in grades K-3. Robert Post entertained students in grades 9-12 with Post Comedy Theatre in October, and will return in December and perform for students in grades 7 and 8. Arts In Education programs are free of charge and are open to the public.
