Help a Local Family of Emergency Responders with Mounting Medical Costs

If you're active on Facebook, it's likely you've heard of Baby Brett (Widener, a two year old from Rossburg) and his ongoing medical troubles. Brett was able to return home from a lengthy stay at Children's Medical Center in Dayton last week but was forced to return just a few days later and is still admitted there as of today (Tuesday).

Brett suffers from hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a condition that causes serious damage and issues to the kidneys, including kidney failure. Brett has had multiple surgical procedures and even had to be sedated and on a ventilator for 8 days while undergoing dialysis treatments.

Brett is the son of Chris and Sheri Widener, both of Rossburg. Chris is squad president at Ansonia Rescue and a lieutenant at Rossburg Fire Deptartment, while Sheri is a volunteer firefighter & full time EMT. Both parents have not left Brett since the start of the ordeal at the beginning of June.

Obviously, the family will need help in covering the costs of the extended stay and all of Brett's procedures. Already, members of Ansonia Rescue, the Rossburg Fire Department, and the Rossburg Auxiliary have held fundraisers, but the Widener's could still use your help.

This morning, a page was created at GoFundMe.com, a crowdfunding site that allows individuals to donate to causes such as these, to help cover the additional and ongoing costs. Please consider helping this family who have dedicated their lives to volunteerism and to helping others in this time of need.
