Megan Monnin and Michael Davidson |
Unfortunately, for the girls, it was Paige against 4th place qualifier Megan Monnin from Versailles. It was a close game with Megan winning 181 to 164. Megan then went on to face Lauren Sanning from Coldwater. This was a nail biter and came down to the tenth frame. With a strike up in the 9th, Megan could shut out Lauren by rolling a strike. She left 3 pins and converted the spare. Lauren now needed to strike the 1st ball in the tenth. She struck and still had some work to do. She needed to mark with 9pins or more to win. She threw an errant shot and went right through the head pin getting a lucky break and leaving only the 6 pin. She converted the spare to win the tournament.
For the boys, tournament leader Michael Davidson faced Chandler Kaeck from Wapakoneta in the first match. Davidson won 223 to 198. The final match was set with Davidson facing Josh Heitkamp from St. Henry. Michael struggled a little bit early on, but made a ball and line change. He finished the game strong, but Josh wasn’t giving in. Josh ended up winning the title 222 to 203.
“Coach Phlipot and I were extremely please with how the kids bowled today. Overall, we had more bowlers make the cut than any other year. To have two 2nd place finishes is a great start and confidence booster to begin the season.” Said Coach Davidson
