VAM to Host Third Session of its 2017 Speaker’s Series
All aboard! We are taking a sentimental trip through artifacts, photos, and stories on the old CH&D railroad. On Sunday afternoon April 23rd the Versailles Area Museum will host local historian, Bob Luttmer and friends as we examine our little country railroad. The railroad, originally running from Cincinnati, Hamilton, and Dayton, Ohio then ran north ending in Delphos, Ohio. This railroad chugged through much of the rural countryside of eastern Darke County.
From its Versailles Depot to Yorkshire and Osgood this train took a more leisurely pace through the bountiful rich farm lands, stopping on route and not holding too strictly to a schedule connecting them to small villages along the way.
Many families went visiting to relatives via the train for the day, even stopping to gather fresh berries along the track. Many natives referred to it as our own Petticoat Junction based on the 1960’s T.V. show.
We invite you to hop on board, bring your stories and artifacts to share and enjoy a spring afternoon with us! This free program begins at 2:00 p.m. and light refreshments will be served.
Please note our “Last Monday” for April has been cancelled due to scheduling conflicts with our numerous school tours. We will plan on resuming these popular programs in June.
