GREENVILLE – Summer is off to a great start, as is the Summer Reading Program at Edison State Community College, Darke County Campus. The Empowering program would like to invite any Darke County student, particularly grades K-6, to stop in and “Read a Bit”… take a trip to another land, learn something you didn’t know, or just enjoy an adventure created by authors hoping to share their thoughts with young readers.
The Reading Program meets three times a week at Edison on Wagner Avenue: Mondays 3:30 to 5:30, and Tuesdays and Thursdays 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Read on your own or with a little help from Empowering volunteers… bring a book from home or from your local library or check out the hundreds of books available for all grade levels. Want a little brush-up on grammar or math? Empowering can help there as well. Stickers and a treat are awarded for reading and other accomplishments.
Stop in any time – no appointment necessary – “Read a Bit,” then if you have the time, join other students in a game of Uno, Connect4 or one of the other games available. Students can even enjoy math-coded coloring pages if they wish.
Contact attempts have been made to all parents requesting tutoring. Due to schedule changes and other unforeseen circumstances, a few tutoring spots for the summer remain open. Anyone wishing more information can contact Facebook Empowering Darke County Youth or email: empoweringdarkecountyyouth@gmail.com.
The community has stepped up for the kids! The Empowering Summer Tutoring and Reading budget has almost been met. Thank you! If anyone would like to help, donations can be sent to P.O. Box 1113, Greenville, Ohio 45331.
Empowering Darke County Youth, a 501c3 Non-Profit Community Service Organization, provides After School and Summer Tutoring programs to assist students in the areas of language arts and math with the goal of Strong Students for a Strong Community.
