Regardless of what you think of Terence's opinion, or his grammar, or his age, or any other non-issue factor being addressed, he makes a point... Greenville is not the same city it used to be. I graduated in the late 90's, and must admit, left as quickly as possible to go to the bigger world. Each time I return to Greenville the town seems sadder and more run down than the last time I was there.
A school doesn't make a city, and students don't make the game; everyones' contributions make a community. The sooner the majority of people realize this, the sooner Greenville's morale will improve.
It would do the readers of this blog some good to not take the defensive approach to this article, but rather, to really exam where the opinion is coming from, and figure out a way to prove Terence wrong.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4305308739784844668.post-25905859684840649492010-08-31T18:14:19.629-04:002010-08-31T18:14:19.629-04:00I think the thing people have the biggest gripe ab...I think the thing people have the biggest gripe about is the way Terrence has treated people on this site and the way he continues to wear the blinders when it comes to looking at something objectively. He just doesn't see any way but his. Its like arguing with a two year old over a juice box. Terrence, the two year old, is told every reason in the world why his approach is wrong and how the more he talks, the dumber he sounds because he keeps saying things that hurt his position instead of helps. However, he keeps pouting. People have said that trying to "build pride" is a good thing, but he went about it all wrong. Yet he continues on as if he shot someone and it was justified simply because he did it.

People build and show pride in their community in a lot of ways. Quite frankly, attending a HS sporting event isn't high up on the list of "best ways" to show pride in your community. There are people who plant the flowers on Broadway, people who volunteer MANY hours during the Darke County Fair, those who volunteer time for festivals and carnivals and everything else in the area, the EUM church last year painting Harmon Field, etc. etc. etc. Quite frankly, attending local school sporting events ranks pretty low in the things I consider showing pride in your community. Attending a game and cheering for 2 hours may be nice for those 2 hours, but I would prefer someone volunteer hours towards the upkeep of those flowers on Broadway or survives on 4 hours of sleep per night for 9 straight days at the Darke County Fair to put on a great show for all the persons from outside of the area that attend. And if you want to point towards having pride simply in your hometown schools, I say that painting store windows, putting up signs at your business, or using your advertising space and/or dollars to tout the team shows more pride than going to a football game! More people see things OUTSIDE of the game itself than would be seen through game attendance, which is likely to boost pride in the schools from the community as opposed to a full Harmon Field for a game.

Here's a challenge to Terrence: Show some pride in your community and go "turn the town green" in Tipp City. How you take that, up to you. However, I remember back several years ago where Tipp City came to Greenville and not only SOAPED the downtown fountain, but dyed it RED! Terrence, gather as many as you can with that pride you're seeking, and start crafting a plan! And I WANT PICTURES!Turn Tipp green?noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4305308739784844668.post-21701624241235298302010-08-31T13:50:08.082-04:002010-08-31T13:50:08.082-04:00I realize people have other things to do in life. ...I realize people have other things to do in life. Work, school, family... maybe you aren't even a football fan and just plain don't want to watch the game, but I hardly see how calling Lee(Wave 96) stupid, childish, immature, a loudmouth helps anything. Facts are facts, people can say what they want. It's America, he has the right to say his opinion about the schools and Greenville's pride, just as the people who continue to post Anonymously have the right to disagree. I just don't see the reason for a lot of the posts. If you have something useful to say, then say it. If you disagree with what his is saying, then present an alternative method. Sure, "Calling all of Greenville out" may not go over to well, but harsh times call for harsh measures. I thought my senior year of going 3-7 last year was harsh. But having to watch my alma mater get shutout and beat 54-0... that brings a whole new meaning to harsh times. Hopefully the boys can turn the season around, because in reality they are the one's who have to do it. The town and the coaches can only do so much. When it comes down to it, it takes the team... The Greenville Greenwave, to take charge and win. It's simple. They've lifted all winter, they've ran to exhaustion all summer and fall. They just have to execute.
Back to what I was saying at the beginning of the post, I completely understand people have other responsibilities than highschool football. Honestly, I'm so excited to leave for college at Ohio State, there isn't much else on my mind. Look at the situation from Wave 96's perspective. He just graduated last year, he was on the football team. Of course his heart and mind is going to be set on helping them as much as possible. He isn't in his 30's, 40's, 50's with kids, a house, bills, college(yet) to worry about. But just because he is trying to help a situation, does not make him ignorant or stupid or immature. He is young, as am I. If people are going to post something, even if it is a negative critique, atleast keep it clean, impersonal, and constructive. Calling someone stupid or "the village idiot" does not make them any better. If we're going to argue about pride in this post, then have some pride in yourself enough to lend a hand. If you think his post is misguided, then lead him. Tearing Wave 96 down doesn't make you look any more intelligent than him. Compassion and understanding can go a long way, be the bigger person, and try to improve Wave 96's point of view instead of attack him with useless posts.Cory Flynnhttp://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1507165533noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4305308739784844668.post-6220841937468777832010-08-31T08:31:09.471-04:002010-08-31T08:31:09.471-04:00Bashing a kid is fun! If you tell people to come to games, you're "forcing your ways upon them". If you agree with them staying home, "you're part of the problem". You have chops to get out and do what you do. DJing, running a radio show, trying to stay active in the community. Sounds like a pretty positive way to live your life as an 18 year old kid. I was senior class president, I knew the student body. Strong opinions and ways of communicating them might frustrate some people, but you could be getting drunk or doing drugs like a lot of the kids at the highschool or in this town.
I played football for GHS for my 4 years... Not just in the fall, but in the winter up in the weightroom, in the spring on the track, in the summer during two a days. The fans might not be on your mind during the game, but hearing all this arguing and negativity about the team and fun support doesn't help the players out. Subconsciously, it does have an effect on the players. I was a team captain on the team last year and I saw it. I saw it all the way from senior leaders, to freshmen, to myself. They're kids. People forget that... they're in highschool. It's supposed to be fun. And it's never fun to be told you're terrible and wasting your time at something you try so hard at.
It's overwhelmingly obvious you have a sea of haters in this thread. Maybe I don't always agree with what you say, but can I say I agree with most things I see anyone say or write? No. You keep expressing your beliefs and opinions because you have the freedom to do so. You live in Darke County. Rural, close minded farming community. I respect people can live the way they want, but in return they need to respect the way other people choose to live their life. Here, you are considered liberal. Someone who sticks out and doesn't go with the flow. Attending OSU and being in Columbus this summer has proven to me just how quick to judge people really are around her. Keep your chin up, make something of yourself. You have my support.
Cory Flynn, Class President of 2010, GHSCory Flynnhttp://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=1507165533noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4305308739784844668.post-33786591096743715582010-08-31T03:19:04.668-04:002010-08-31T03:19:04.668-04:00I have no clue why I am up this early for. but si...I have no clue why I am up this early for. but since I am. First off, you just basically said you are blaming everyone BUT the students for games not being attended. So, if your FRIENDS and CLASSMATES don't even want to come watch, why are you so much tougher on everyone else? Travis says that games were full when he was in school because STUDENTS were filling the stands. Now, when students don't want to fill the stands, all of the sudden they are let off the hook and you have to attack the rest of the community for not attending? Pretty shallow and pathetic, Terrence.

In fact, aren't you the one who just stated in your article that you can't stand people that treat a football game as a "social hour." Funny, but who amongst those attending games are most likely to treat it as a social hour? STUDENTS! So, you have a problem with people doing that, but students aren't the problem?

I think you should think for a bit before posting ANYTHING. Obviously you can't follow a straight line of thought and come to a conclusion. Don't blame the community for not attending GHS sporting events and let students off the hook just because it doesn't "fit who you want to blame." Clearly you noticed issues with students at games, but now it isn't the students who are part of the issue?

You've got quite a bit of growing up to do - people on here have spoken common sense circles around you and you continue to chase your tail and grasp at straws.

Good luck, kid.
