If you have been following this story since yesterday, there isn’t any new information as of 9:30am on Friday. I simply wanted to consolidate the several posts from yesterday into one central post. We will continue updating as we get more information.
Police are now looking for Jamel K Gray, described as a black male, age 37, is 6’02” tall and weighs 225 lbs. He is being sought after allegedly attempting to murder his ex girlfriend, Shanna Cates, 38, also of Greenville.According to this article at WDTN.com, and this article at WHIOtv.com, Gray was arrested on Tuesday of this week on a felony domestic assault charge after an altercation with Cates. On Wednesday, he was released with no bond and on his own recognizance, but with a protection order that ordered him to stay away from Cates.
Police believe he then began searching for Cates before finding her after midnight at a friend’s home where she was allegedly staying out of fear of Gray.
According to the reports, Gray then forced his way into the residence and attacked Cates with a knife, causing several severe lacerations on her head and neck. Gray fled the scene and Cates was taken to Wayne Hospital where she was then transported to Miami Valley Hospital via CareFlight.
Residents are strongly urged to contact the authorities with information on Gray’s whereabouts. If you see Gray, you are to call 911 immediately.
