Edison holds Guidance Counselor Conference

Scott Burnam, Vice President of Student Affairs speaks to area high school guidance counselors at Edison's Guidance Counselor Conference on October 9th at the Piqua Campus.
Edison Community College recently hosted 28 area high school guidance counselors on Thursday, October 9 in the Robinson Theater. Previously held as a luncheon, this year’s event marked the first half-day Counselor Conference, which allowed for more in depth presentations on important topics and networking opportunities.

“It’s really important connecting with high school counselors since they are who students go to right away to get information about college,” said Christina Raterman, Enrollment Manager at Edison. “We want to help inform students about all the wonderful opportunities Edison has to offer. We enjoy fostering our partnerships with counselors by honoring their hard work and collaborating with them on ideas. It was a great day!”

Beginning with a continental breakfast and networking session, attendees were introduced to the policies regarding the new College Credit Plus (CC+) initiative. CC+ provides high school students with the opportunity to gain college credits while still attending high school. The new initiative will replace the Dual Enrollment and Post Secondary Enrollment Option (PSEOP) currently offered throughout community colleges statewide.

Following the introduction of CC+, those in attendance were informed of the various programs offered at Edison including the various academic fields of Arts and Sciences, Business, Information Technology, English, and Nursing and Health Sciences. In addition to academics, student life, advising, and athletics were also discussed in a dynamic panel consisting of Edison staff and faculty. Guidance counselors concluded their visit at Edison with lunch, followed by a tour of the Piqua Campus.
