A Night at the Museum

In celebration of the Versailles Community’s Hometown Christmas, the Versailles Area Museum will have special hours this Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. as we welcome the 2016 Holiday Season.

Be one of the first to see Art Gaier’s collection of fantastic antique bicycles held over by the overwhelming interest, now in a winter setting.

You’ll see our 1900 kitchen a busy place to wrapping presents and read the Christmas story. See how the old mercantile store was your place to shop. Many of local artists, Harris Begin’s winter pictures are throughout the museum for you to enjoy.

Touches of Christmas will be throughout the museum, featuring something special in each of our rooms. Thanks to Judy Shappie there will again be a unique display of Santa’s through the years.

Don’t forget to see the wonderful toys made by local carpenter, C.F. or “Pittsy” Pittsenbarger and painted by his wife Esther, a beloved music teacher in Versailles for many years.

Of course advertising for businesses long gone are displayed along with a trip to Martin’s Department Store. The 1990’s will be remembered as we play the “Sounds of Christmas” produced by Towne & Country Players on the big screen.

Also with Veteran’s Day, a trip through the Military room is a must. Displays gathered represent our America’s Civil War till the present there is much to see and as American’s many reasons to be grateful.

But our show stopper this Christmas is called “A Sweet Treat” the story of M&M’s. You will be amazed at the hundreds of M&M’s collectables to see the wonderful collection of Janet & Leo Rinderle. We will be sharing more about this wonderful collection in the weeks ahead.

So get into the spirit of the season and stop by this Friday or any Sunday till December 18th from 1:00 until 4:00 with special tours from Pre-School to Senior, we have something for everyone!

Remember our gift shop for that special book for someone on your list! “Ho, ho, ho”, Santa says “don’t miss out”!
