Wayne Theater Movie Review: Monsters vs. Aliens

This kids' movie begins when California girl Susan Murphy gets smashed by a meteor on her wedding day and grows to 49 feet, 11 inches. To protect the public, Susan is taken away to a top-secret prison for monsters, where she meets a genius cockroach, a brainless indestructible gelatin blob, a 350-foot grub, and a half-gorilla-half-fish "missing link" (all seen to the right ... except for the grub).

These "monsters" are banished to seclusion until the earth is threatened by aliens, and well ... you can guess what happens next.

This movie is a lot of fun for both kids and adults. The 7-year-old sitting next to me was literally sitting on the edge of his seat for the entire movie. There are a fair share of gags for adults too, including plenty of inside jokes - and a healthy share of political references, of all things. The fictional president (voiced by Stephen Colbert) is absolutely hilarious, particularly in his encounter with the alien mother ship.

The Yahoo! movie critics (who apparently skipped childhood and have no sense of fun) gave this movie a C+. Yahoo! users gave it a B+ ... and so do I (with the extra note that this movie is a "must see" with your son aged 6 to 12).

Don't forget ... all tickets at Wayne are only $4.50.
