Guilty verdict (again) in Troutwine murder case

Arcanum's Phillip Troutwine went missing back in September 2004. About three weeks later, his body was found in his vehicle - which had been parked in West Carrollton. Following an investigation, 32-year-old James A. Russell was charged and then convicted of the murder of Troutwine.

But during the trial a jury verdict form was mistakenly published to the jury. The defense made a motion for mistrial, which the trial judge overruled. The Second District Court of Appeals, however, found that the verdict form was prejudicial - and reversed the conviction in 2006.

Russell's re-trial occurred this week in the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court. And - no surprise - he was convicted again (although it must have been a massive waste of money to conduct the second trial).

Russell has remained incarcerated throughout the legal proceedings - and now faces a sentence of life in prison.
