Two more big trees will soon bite the dust on circle project (??)

The Greenville circle project has progressed to the northwest quadrant next to the city building. The tree carnage continues as two mature trees, one much larger than the other, were at the center of today's demolition. All of the other large trees have been removed from the other islands, so these two also seemed destined to become mulch. There has been a degree of public backlash for the removal of trees - and the circle project in general. So what do you think?

Update: They're gone.

  1. John Schmidt is out of his mind. It's too bad he didn't leave with Fraley. This is one man who is full of himself. I have now idea where he gets his direction. I think he gets inspiration from reading the backs of children's cereal boxes. What a moron. John, I'd say it to your face but you probably wouldn't understand. John, what's your standpoint on the ethanol plant CO2 situation. I hope to see you at the meeting Monday 6-29.

  2. Oh, I agree with Anonymous 100%....and I don't even know John Schmidt, but I think spending ANY money whatsoever on re-doing the traffic circle was poor judgment on someone's part. I wonder why that money could not have been spent toward enhancing the schools?

  3. Do even the City leaders think that they are getting over a half million dollars worth from this misadventure?

  4. The downtown area looks like crap.If this is the first step (not saying it is, but it needed to be done) to turning Greenville into a place to come too and spend time in town then thats what this town needs.

  5. Tearing up mature trees for no good reason is exactly what causes carbon sequestration to be a necessary evil.
