Dallas, TX – Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) had twelve Business Professionals of America (BPA) students qualify to compete in the National Leadership Conference in Dallas, TX on June 17-21, 2009. The students were “Blazing New Trails” while taking contests, trading BPA state pins with students from all over the country, sightseeing, attending general sessions, and participating in seminars. The MVCTC BPA advisors Robert Frantz, Computer Network Engineering Instructor, and Kelly Haws, Legal Assistant Instructor, accompanied these students as well as joined other conference delegates from 21 states to participate at the national-level business skill competition. MVCTC BPA students earned five top awards at the national competition.
- Lacy Stamper (Wayne) placed first in the nation in the Basic Office Systems and Procedures contest
- Shannon Blevins (Preble Shawnee) placed second in the nation in the Legal Office Procedures contest
- Jonathan McKinney (Tipp City) placed third in the nation in the Computer Network Technology Concepts contests
- Daniel Jasnowski (Northmont) placed in the Top Ten in the nation for the Fundamentals of XHTML contest
- Melinda Myers (Arcanum) - photo above - placed in the Top Ten in the nation for the Integrated Office Applications contest
These students all won $125 vouchers from Microsoft to take the NCAS Microsoft Certification Tests.
Two students participated in the National Leadership Academy—Zachary Dozier, Financial Management (Wayne) and Jessica Webb, Legal Assistant (Eaton). They participated in several leadership workshops, served as interns, and volunteered their time throughout the conference.
BPA students achieve torch awards by participating in many activities throughout the year and MVCTC had eleven (11) students who received the highest award—Ambassador Torch Award. Four of the eleven students attended the National Leadership Conference and were honored at an Ambassador Award Reception, this included Shannon Blevins (Preble Shawnee), Shelby Lyons (New Lebanon), Melinda Myers (Arcanum), and Chanin Robison (Mississinawa Valley). Other Ambassador recipients were Ashley Fultz (Tipp City), Alexa McConkey (New Lebanon), Jessica Miller (Brookville), Sierra Pierce (Eaton), Timothy Stine (Milton-Union), Devin Taylor (Trotwood), and Brandon Walls (Trotwood).
