Report: Greenville bar fight ends in man's death

There seems to be conflicting information on this. WHIO is reporting that a bar fight occurred last night on the 300 block of South Broadway in Greenville. Others have reported that it happened at Sportzters (400 block).

Regardless, 39-year-old Kevin R. Bruner died shortly after the incident. Although completely unconfirmed, a commenter here stated that Bruner was "[h]it in the back of the head on the way out to help a friend already in a fight."

More details as they become available.

  2. It's not "are we" but "we are". Since we have started the goverment housing areas in Greenville there have been a progressive influx of people moving to Greenville from Dayton.
Now Greenville Schools are playing more of the schools from the Dayton and it's surrounding areas.
We have not seen the end yet, it is just beginning.
I am sure this will help the tax revenue coming into the city and county.

  3. WHat the hell does that have to do with Kevin being killed? you need to get a clue you idiot. Read the story again, it has nothing to do with schools or public housing.

  4. To Oct. 3 @ 6:27 PM:
Don't be offended by the last clueless comment. You are absolutely right. The fight and its sad result are a symptom, not a disease. You correctly identified the cancer.

  5. Maybe all of you need to buy a clue. None of the reports state that he was killed, it says he died shortly after the incident. It's a coroner's case so they can try to find out what happened. For all we know he could have had a heart attack or something else.

  6. Why was he killed then mister no it all tell us we would all like to no.

  7. It has to do with the kind of trash that was involved. Granted, Kevin was here before all the government housing. On the other hand, you can not help but see what a crap hole Greenville is becoming. I know alot of people don't want to see the crime and drugs in greenville. They close their eyes and pretend nothing is wrong. I'm out there people, let me tell you. Greenville is not the same geenville of 20 to 30 years ago. Crime and drugs are very bad in greenville.

  8. I will not disagree with any of these posts. Greenville has deteriorated since I moved here 19 years ago. The city needs to spend more time and money on the police department and the criminal justice system needs to send more people to jail for the long haul, not the short stent.

But, the most important thing here is the loss of a man with a wife and two children. We are bitching about the crime in this city but we are not looking at the fact that a family is without thier husband and father. God bless them and my thoughts are with them.

  9. Greenville wishes it were Dayton.

  10. Give me a break...there have always been bar fights and drugs in Darke County. This summer didn't bring the first drug bust ever to Greenville. As for the bar fights...fifteen years ago when I was 21, there were bar fights every weekend. Sometimes several. Difference was, nobody died. When you choose to fight, it's a risk you take that you will hurt or kill someone. Luckily for our county, until now, it had never happened.

As for Mr. Bruner, my heart goes out to his family and friends. I'm sure no matter what the 'real' story is, they are suffering today. May God be with them.

  11. Anonymous @ 3:15AM, I would like to KNOW where you learned how to spell? A question mark should come after you ask a question. So your question should be - Why was he killed then mister KNOW it all? Tell us, we would all like to KNOW. I don't know the answer, but hopefully the coroner and detectives can find out. My sympathy goes out to the family too.

  12. Everybody needs to open their eyes and realize, this crap has been here for years, you just choose not to see it.

  13. I agree Greenville needs to get its act together… however if you think this is something new, you are wrong.

I moved to Greenville in 1965, and there were drugs, bar fights and even murders back then. I agree that the public housing extremes in Greenville do not help the situation, but it is not the cause. Respect, Responsibility and Accountability are what is missing in society today.

  14. Unfortunately, this is not new in Greenville. When I was a foolish school kid, (around 20 years ago) my friends and I would drive uptown on Friday and Saturday nights and park in front of the Brass Rail. We knew that almost every weekend, we would be able to see fights break out on the sidewalk. People tried to blame it on out-of-towners then too.
So, it may be different bars and different people involved but the violence certainly isn't new.

  15. More sad news, Stephen Moody, 31, was beaten outside the Higgins Station Bar on Main Street in Trotwood on Sunday. He was in a coma and passed away today.

  16. I have known Kevin since he was a young boy. I really don't care how or why. I care that a young man is gone and his family is suffering. God bless them.

  17. I tried adding a comment but you must be afraid of the police in this town!! I called them inept and as long as this is taking ill stand by that comment!! I doubt you will publish this because you obviously dont believe in free speech!!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Idiot. Your right to comment on this blog - and my decision whether to publish the comments - has absolutely nothing to do with free speech. The Constitution guarantees you free speech, but not your choices of forums in which to express it. You can go on the courthouse steps and yell that the police are inept all you want, but of course then people would know who you were. So you don't, and instead complain when I don't allow you cover for your anonymous, unsubstantiated allegations against the guys who protect our community. Next time, add your name and email address, and maybe you'll be taken more seriously.

I happen to know that the GPD is working this case hard. Not every case is easy, or quickly resolved.

  19. You obviously have no clue about the politics in this fair city do you? Being anonymous is the way you want to be when calling me an idiot!!! Hmmm maybe you should practice what you preach and post your name and email address or better yet your home address and phone number and we can have a debate over this very subject! The challenge is your now bud lets see where your heart is!!

  20. I don't know much about politics in Greenvillle. I used to be more involved with city government when I actually lived here, and it was a bad experience. So I have washed my hands of the situation as much as possible. I think a true leader needs to come in and challenge the status quo in a significant way. But that's about all I have to say about Greenville.

As for your comment about free speech, it was idiotic. You have no more write to comment on this website than you have demanding 5 minutes on tonight's CBS Evening News.

And the irony of all ironies (which I see all the time on this website) is people challenging my anonymity by way of their own anonymous comments. I choose not to put my name on this website mostly so I don't show up in Google searches. But it's hardly a secret who runs this site, and all of my comments are listed under "Darke Journal." By contrast, I have no clue who you are - and no good way of finding out.

  21. Then we will just leave it the way it is and I appreciate the way you have handled it. I just want answers as to whether or not its safe on the city`s streets or whether we are turning into a Dayton.

    ReplyDelete
  22. no problem. and i meant "right" not "write." oops

    ReplyDelete
  23. I knew you meant right and agree with you that I have no divine right to speak out on this site.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but there should be some limits on the comments. And after all, I have spent a lot of my own time to make this site available and free for everybody, so I think I should also have the privilege of screening the comments as I want.

Divine right I don't know about - but there's no constitutional right to speak out on DarkeJournal, although the standards are pretty loose.

  25. Anyone heard any news on the mans death yet??

    ReplyDelete
  26. Haven`t heard any new and it seems to me that if you are killed in Connecticut then it takes about a week to arrest someone but in Greenville it`s been a month and no news at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
